El transporte de postlarvas de camarón en la acuicultura es un elemento importante del éxito del cultivo.
Varios bioensayos se realizaron en el laboratorio para evaluar la supervivencia de camarón blanco Litopenaeus vannamei 5 – 30 días de edad, en condiciones similares a las encontradas durante el transporte desde el laboratorio de larvas de camarón a los estanques. Las Postlarvas se expusieron durante 4 horas a diferentes temperaturas, concentraciones de pH y niveles de amonio. La supervivencia se redujo significativamente después de una exposición de 4 horas a pH 9 y fue inversamente relacionada con la temperatura con o sin amonio de 7 mg/ L. Postlarvas de 15 a 20 días de edad tuvieron tasas de supervivencia más alta que otras edades. La supervivencia más baja se produjo en condiciones de pH alto (pH 9) con 7 mg/ L NH4 y 30 a 32 grados de temperatura. En cambio, a temperaturas menores a 28 grados centígrados y pH no superior a 8, las postlarvas tuvieron mejor supervivencia en el transporte. Postlarvas de edades de 15 días tuvieron las supervivencias más altas.
